Lets start by learning a simple 4 note repeated bass line and trying to improvise with the right hand using a blues scale.
In this video I show you how to start with a simple C Major Pentatonic (5 note)  scale and in two simple steps turn it into an A Blues scale. A C Major Pentatonic Scale can be thought of as a C Major Scale with the 4th and 7th notes missing.

Now Play the same notes but starting on A and you have an A minor Pentatonic Scale
Now add one further note, Eb and you have an A Blues scale.

Now watch the video and learn how to start improvising. Remember to make sure that the left hand bass line is playing on beats one and three all the time and start creating short melodic ideas with the right hand. Use just some of the notes from the scale first and add the rest later. Take it one step at a time and don't try to play too many notes to begin with. You may find this difficult at first but keep trying and it will become easier. This will give you your first taste of improvisation.
