7th Cords can be built by adding a further note to a triad which is seven letter names above the first (Root) note. Diatonic 7th Chords in the key of C Major are shown below first with Roman Numerals and second with letter names. As with Triads there are different types of 7th Chord and in the video below I explain how to build five types of 7th Chord Major, Dominant, Minor, Minor 7 with flattened 5th (also called half diminished) and Diminished. 7th Chords are more colourful than Triads and are used extensively in jazz.
